Algorithm-Guided Pharmacological Treatment for Major Depressive Disorder in China: Clinical Predictors and Outcomes

This study examined 987 Chinese MDD patients to identify clinical predictors of antidepressant response and compare algorithm-guided treatment (AGT) with standard care. Eight clinical traits including anxious characteristics predicted treatment resistance, while autonomic symptoms predicted better response; AGT showed longer symptom remission time than usual treatment, though not statistically significant.

The 'Discontinuity Hypothesis' of Depression in Later Life: Clinical and Research Implications

This narrative review challenges the assumption that depressed mood exists on a continuum with depressive disorders, proposing instead that in older adults, depressed mood may be an aging-related consequence of physical illness in people resilient to actual depressive disorders. The authors argue that differences in course, poor screening predictive value, and inconsistent dose-response relationships support reconceptualizing depression in later life, with implications for pharmacological treatment efficacy.

Digital Biomarkers in Major Depressive Disorder and Treatment-Resistant Depression: A Narrative Review

This narrative review examines digital biomarkers and wearable technologies used to predict diagnostic status, assess symptom severity, identify treatment response, and monitor real-world outcomes in major depressive disorder (MDD) and treatment-resistant depression (TRD). The analysis of 12 peer-reviewed studies from 2013-2023 shows that physiological, activity/sleep, and subjective data collected via wearable devices show promise in improving depression management given the current low remission rates.

Preventing recurrence of postpartum depression by regulating sleep

This review examines medication and psychotherapy approaches for preventing postpartum depression in women with prior mood disorders, finding contradictory results from prophylactic drug studies. The authors propose that addressing sleep loss and insomnia—common early symptoms in perinatal psychiatric disorders—may be a more effective prevention strategy than traditional antidepressant-only approaches.
