Anxiety Symptom Networks in Major Depressive Disorder and Bipolar Disorder: A Comparative Network Analysis

This cross-sectional study of 815 patients compared anxiety symptom networks between major depressive disorder (MDD) and bipolar disorder (BD) using the Beck Anxiety Inventory and network analysis techniques. While both conditions showed similar core anxiety symptoms (loss of control, choking sensations, breathing difficulties, unsteadiness, shakiness), MDD demonstrated stronger overall network connectivity than BD, suggesting different patterns of symptom interconnection despite comparable symptom profiles.

Cord Blood Acylcarnitine Profile and Risk of ADHD and Autism in Childhood: A Prospective Birth Cohort Study

This prospective study examined whether acylcarnitine levels in cord blood—metabolites reflecting mitochondrial fatty acid metabolism—predict childhood ADHD and autism risk in 995 children. Higher short-chain and long-chain acylcarnitines were associated with significantly increased odds of ADHD and autism, suggesting early metabolic biomarkers may identify neurodevelopmental risk.

Validation of the German Parent-Report Anxiety Scale for Autistic Children: Addressing Diagnostic Overlap and Autism-Specific Anxiety Patterns

This validation study examined the German version of the Anxiety Scale for Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder-Parent Version (ASC-ASD-P) in 317 youth at an autism clinic, including 120 autistic children, demonstrating excellent internal consistency and convergent validity with established behavioral measures. Autistic youth showed higher anxiety and uncertainty scores than non-autistic peers, confirming the scale's sensitivity to autism-specific anxiety presentations, though some subscales require refinement for broader applicability across the autism spectrum.

Symptomatic hyperprolactinemia mimicking pituitary pathology in a child with Landau-Kleffner syndrome and autism spectrum disorder: case report

A 12-year-old girl with autism spectrum disorder, Landau-Kleffner syndrome, and intellectual disability developed galactorrhea, vision problems, and falls while taking risperidone, with laboratory findings showing elevated prolactin (40.2 ng/mL) but normal imaging excluding pituitary tumor. Switching from risperidone to olanzapine resulted in complete symptom resolution and prolactin normalization (2.2 ng/mL) within three months, highlighting the importance of monitoring prolactin levels in children on antipsychotic medication.

Autism in Schizophrenia and Its Original Link to Self-Disorder: Returning a Borrowed Concept

This academic paper traces the historical origins of the term 'autism' coined by Eugen Bleuler in 1910 to describe schizophrenia, and how the concept was later borrowed to describe autism spectrum disorder, leading to diagnostic confusion. The authors argue that autistic features in schizophrenia differ fundamentally from autism spectrum disorder—rooted in self-disorder rather than developmental autism—and propose this distinction is crucial for accurate differential diagnosis and appropriate treatment.

Association Between Bipolar Disorder and Parkinson's Disease: A Review of Dopaminergic Mechanisms and Clinical Implications

This literature review examines the association between bipolar disorder and Parkinson's disease, focusing on their shared dopaminergic dysfunction in nigrostriatal and mesolimbic pathways. Recent analyses and meta-analyses show increased risk of developing Parkinson's disease in bipolar disorder patients, though differentiating idiopathic from medication-induced parkinsonism requires careful evaluation including DAT scans.
