Substance Use Disorder and Generalized Anxiety Disorder in University Students: A Cross-Sectional Study from Cameroon

This cross-sectional study of 917 university students in Cameroon found that 15.7% met criteria for substance use disorder and 26.4% for generalized anxiety disorder, with students having substance use disorder being nearly three times more likely to experience anxiety symptoms. Male gender, prior psychiatric history, and living alone were identified as additional risk factors for co-occurrence of both conditions.

Anxiety Symptom Networks in Major Depressive Disorder and Bipolar Disorder: A Comparative Network Analysis

This cross-sectional study of 815 patients compared anxiety symptom networks between major depressive disorder (MDD) and bipolar disorder (BD) using the Beck Anxiety Inventory and network analysis techniques. While both conditions showed similar core anxiety symptoms (loss of control, choking sensations, breathing difficulties, unsteadiness, shakiness), MDD demonstrated stronger overall network connectivity than BD, suggesting different patterns of symptom interconnection despite comparable symptom profiles.

Cord Blood Acylcarnitine Profile and Risk of ADHD and Autism in Childhood: A Prospective Birth Cohort Study

This prospective study examined whether acylcarnitine levels in cord blood—metabolites reflecting mitochondrial fatty acid metabolism—predict childhood ADHD and autism risk in 995 children. Higher short-chain and long-chain acylcarnitines were associated with significantly increased odds of ADHD and autism, suggesting early metabolic biomarkers may identify neurodevelopmental risk.

Dietary Patterns and Risk of Depression Symptoms and Anxiety Disorder: A Prospective Cohort Study

This longitudinal study of over 6,900 adults examined associations between empirically-derived dietary patterns and subsequent risk of depression and anxiety using annual validated screening questionnaires. High consumption of fast food and sugar was associated with approximately doubled risk of both depression symptoms and anxiety disorder, while vegetable-rich and vegetarian-like diets showed no protective effect in the total population.

HPT Axis Dysregulation in Mood and Anxiety Disorders: Clinical Utility of Thyroid Hormone Assessment in Psychiatric Inpatients

This comparative study examined thyroid function (TSH, FT4, FT3) in 88 hospitalized patients with major depressive disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, or bipolar disorder, finding significantly elevated TSH and higher subclinical hypothyroidism prevalence in depression patients. The research explores correlations between thyroid parameters and symptom severity using validated psychiatric rating scales while controlling for non-thyroidal illness effects.

Prevalence and Trends of Developmental Disabilities Among US Children and Adolescents Aged 3 to 17 Years From 2016 to 2024

This epidemiological study analyzed national survey data from 2016–2024 to examine prevalence trends in ADHD, autism spectrum disorder, learning disabilities, intellectual disability, and other developmental delays in US children aged 3–17 years. Results showed significant increases in ADHD, learning disabilities, and autism prevalence, with distinct age patterns, while intellectual disability remained stable, highlighting a growing public health challenge requiring enhanced early identification and research.
