Racial and Ethnic Differences in Traumatic Brain Injury Prevalence and Incidence: A Systematic Review

This systematic review examined how traumatic brain injury (TBI) prevalence and incidence vary across racial and ethnic groups in the United States, finding significant disparities including highest concussion rates among American Indian/Alaska Native high school students and TBI-related death rates ranging from 7.7 to 29.0 per 100,000 across different populations. The findings highlight the need for targeted public health approaches addressing disparities in TBI risk and outcomes across different demographic groups.

Functional and Microstructural Biomarkers of Repetitive Mild Head Injury in Conscious Mice

This study developed the first conscious mouse model of repetitive mild traumatic brain injury using momentum exchange, avoiding confounds of anesthesia and skull fracture. Repetitive impacts induced lasting cerebrovascular dysfunction, reduced brain connectivity, white matter changes, and glial activation detectable 10 days post-injury, validating the model for studying rmTBI mechanisms.
