Antipsychotic and mood stabilizer prescribing for Veterans Affairs patients with PTSD: A national investigation
This study examined prescribing patterns of antipsychotics and mood stabilizers among 122,292 VA patients diagnosed with PTSD without comorbid bipolar or psychotic disorders in 2019. Findings showed 11.9% received antipsychotics and 12.4% received mood stabilizers, with suicide risk flags and benzodiazepine use as key predictors, highlighting guideline-nonconcordant treatment patterns in the VA system.
