Statins' Effect on Quality of Life and Functioning in Older Stroke Patients: Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
This systematic review evaluated 6 randomized controlled trials and 16 cohort studies (66,273 patients, mean age 65-79) examining statin use for secondary prevention after ischemic stroke or transient ischemic attack. Meta-analysis of cohort studies showed a positive association between statins and improved functioning, though individual trials had mixed results regarding quality of life, with significant methodological limitations noted across included studies.
