Comparative Investigation of Folate Deficiency in Alcohol and Substance Use Disorder Patients by Substance Type
This retrospective study of 633 patients with alcohol or substance use disorders found that folate deficiency varies significantly by substance type, with methamphetamine users showing the lowest folate levels and highest folate deficiency rates. Alcohol, methamphetamine, and opioid users had significantly higher folate deficiency compared to cannabis users, highlighting the importance of nutritional assessment in substance use disorder treatment.
