Machine Learning Classification of Internet Gaming Disorder and Alcohol Use Disorder Using EEG and Neuropsychological Features

This study employed machine learning algorithms on EEG data and neuropsychological assessments to distinguish internet gaming disorder from alcohol use disorder and healthy controls. The multimodal approach combining brain activity patterns with psychological measures achieved 71.2% accuracy, identifying differential neural connectivity patterns between the disorder groups.

Interhemispheric EEG coherence as a candidate biomarker in gambling disorder: evidence of frontal hyperconnectivity and posterior disconnectivity

This study examined resting-state quantitative EEG coherence in 29 gambling disorder patients versus 45 healthy controls, finding distinct patterns of interhemispheric connectivity disruption. Gambling disorder was characterized by frontal pole hypercoherence combined with hypocoherence in temporal, central, and parietal regions, with connectivity patterns correlating with disorder duration.

Non-Suicidal Self-Injury and Exercise: Associations With Addictive Disorders in Korean Adults

This epidemiological study of 5,511 Korean adults found that non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) was the strongest predictor of addictive disorders (alcohol, tobacco, internet gaming), with over 9-fold increased risk. Interestingly, while regular walking was protective, moderate-to-high exercise was associated with increased addiction risk, suggesting complex relationships between behavioral patterns and addictive disorders.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Alcohol Use Disorder, Drug Addiction, Gambling Disorder, and Codependency: A 12-Month Randomized Controlled Trial

A 12-month randomized controlled trial evaluated CBT's effectiveness for treating alcohol use disorder, drug addiction, gambling disorder, and codependency across approximately 70-74 participants per condition. Results showed statistically significant improvements (p < 0.001) in quality of life and reduced addiction severity in the CBT group compared to controls, as measured by standardized instruments and validated assessment scales.
