Machine Learning Models for Predicting Return-to-Play Timelines After Sports-Related Concussion

This study developed machine learning models using data from 971 college athletes to predict recovery timelines and recovery type (typical vs. prolonged) following sports-related concussion. Post-concussion symptoms and cognitive performance measured 24-48 hours post-injury were the strongest predictors, with classification models achieving 89% accuracy in distinguishing typical from prolonged recovery trajectories.

Hindi Adaptation and Psychometric Validation of Rivermead Post-Concussion Symptoms Questionnaire for Traumatic Brain Injury Patients

This study successfully adapted the Rivermead Post-Concussion Symptoms Questionnaire into Hindi and validated it for use in Hindi-speaking TBI patients. The Hindi version demonstrated good reliability, temporal stability, and a six-factor structure with adequate psychometric properties for assessing post-head injury symptoms.

National audit of head injury discharge advice compliance with NICE guidelines

This audit evaluated 99 head injury discharge leaflets from NHS England trusts against NICE guidance (NG232), finding none achieved full compliance (mean score 0.42/1.0). While safety information about surgical deterioration met targets, advice on concussion symptom management and return-to-activity guidance fell significantly short of standards.

Psychometric Validation and Revision of the Common Misconceptions About Traumatic Brain Injury Scale

This study examined the factor structure and validity of the 40-item CM-TBI scale using 988 international participants and identified significant psychometric limitations, resulting in a revised 18-item instrument with improved validity. The authors conclude that modern understanding of TBI has evolved since the original scale's development, and recommend developing new instruments that more clearly distinguish between knowledge and misconceptions as separate constructs.

Progress in Concussion and Traumatic Brain Injury Science: A 40-Year Clinical Review

This special communication reviews how knowledge and clinical practice regarding concussion and traumatic brain injury have evolved over four decades, examining advances in understanding pathophysiology, recovery mechanisms, and long-term outcomes. The article highlights shifts in terminology, improvements in assessment and rehabilitation approaches, and identifies areas requiring further research.

Early neurorehabilitation after traumatic brain injury reduces Parkinson's disease risk: A retrospective cohort study

This retrospective cohort study examined 3,500+ patients with moderate to severe TBI and found that immediate neurorehabilitation (within 1 week) reduced the risk of developing Parkinson's disease at 3 and 5 years compared to delayed rehabilitation (8 days to 6 months). The protective effect was demonstrated through both PD incidence and medication prescription outcomes using propensity score-matched analysis.
