Gym Usage and Exercise Physiology Services in an Australian Private Psychiatric Hospital: A File Audit
This audit examined the extent of gymnasium and exercise physiologist utilization among 100 patients discharged from a private psychiatric inpatient unit, finding that only 24% had documented gym attendance, with higher usage among those with substance use disorders than affective disorders. The study recommends standardized procedures for exercise assessment and referral, as those potentially most benefiting from exercise coaching were underrepresented in exercise physiology referrals.
