Cortical Gyrification Patterns in Panic Disorder With and Without Comorbid Generalized Anxiety Disorder

This neuroimaging study compared brain cortical folding patterns in 90 panic disorder patients (30 with comorbid GAD, 60 without) and 65 healthy controls using MRI analysis. Results showed increased cortical gyrification in fear-network regions in panic disorder, with additional hypergyrification in worry-related brain areas specifically in the comorbid group, and correlations between cortical measures and suicidality/avoidance behaviors.

Resting-State Functional Connectivity Differences Between Generalized Anxiety Disorder and Social Anxiety Disorder: Nucleus Accumbens and Thalamus Networks

This fMRI study compared brain functional connectivity in 21 social anxiety disorder (SAD) patients, 17 generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) patients, and 30 healthy controls, finding that GAD involves stronger connectivity between the nucleus accumbens and thalamus compared to SAD. The nucleus accumbens-thalamus connectivity correlated with state anxiety severity in both anxiety groups, suggesting this network distinction may help differentiate between these two conditions.

Differential Item Functioning in Mood and Anxiety Disorder Screening Questions Across Demographic Subgroups

This study analyzed screening questions from the Composite International Diagnostic Interview in 15,893 Australian survey respondents to assess whether the accuracy of mood and anxiety disorder screening varies by sex, age, employment, location, and substance use. While some differential item functioning was identified primarily by age and sex, the overall impact on screening accuracy for mood and anxiety disorders was minimal.

Videonystagmography Findings in Dizziness Patients with Anxiety Disorders

A hospital-based study of 64 anxiety patients presenting with dizziness examined vestibular function using videonystagmography and assessed anxiety severity with the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale. The study found statistically significant associations between anxiety disorders and vestibular dysfunction, with abnormal gaze nystagmus and peripheral vestibulopathy occurring in substantial proportions of patients.
