Cortical Gyrification Patterns in Panic Disorder With and Without Comorbid Generalized Anxiety Disorder
This neuroimaging study compared brain cortical folding patterns in 90 panic disorder patients (30 with comorbid GAD, 60 without) and 65 healthy controls using MRI analysis. Results showed increased cortical gyrification in fear-network regions in panic disorder, with additional hypergyrification in worry-related brain areas specifically in the comorbid group, and correlations between cortical measures and suicidality/avoidance behaviors.
