Efficacy of Low-Dose Colchicine for Stroke Prevention: Meta-Analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials
A meta-analysis of six randomized controlled trials involving nearly 15,000 patients found that low-dose colchicine (0.5 mg daily) reduced stroke risk by 28% relative to placebo, with stronger effects in patients with established cardiovascular disease. The treatment also showed comparable reductions in major adverse cardiovascular events and received FDA approval in June 2023 for primary cardiovascular prevention.
