Prevalence and Associated Factors of Social Anxiety Disorder in India: Findings from the National Mental Health Survey 2016
This epidemiological study analyzed data from India's National Mental Health Survey covering 34,802 adults and found a 0.47% prevalence of social anxiety disorder, with male gender, unemployment, and urban residence as risk factors. Individuals with SAD experienced significant functional impairment across work and social domains, with 82% not receiving treatment despite high rates of comorbid psychiatric conditions.
