Soluble Suppression of Tumorigenicity 2 as a Biomarker for Atrial Fibrillation Detected After Stroke: A Retrospective Clinical Study

This retrospective study of 970 stroke/TIA patients found that elevated sST2 levels independently predicted atrial fibrillation detection after stroke (AFDAS), with sST2 showing superior predictive value (AUC 0.815) compared to conventional risk factors. Adding sST2 to a conventional risk model significantly improved prediction accuracy for AFDAS in acute stroke patients.

Neural fingerprints of gambling disorder using diffusion tensor imaging

This neuroimaging study compared brain structural connectivity in 25 individuals with gambling disorder versus 28 healthy controls using diffusion tensor imaging and probabilistic tractography. The gambling disorder group showed increased striatal connectivity but reduced frontal lobe connectivity and fewer neural hubs, suggesting impaired network integration related to risk-taking control.

Dietary Patterns and Risk of Depression Symptoms and Anxiety Disorder: A Prospective Cohort Study

This longitudinal study of over 6,900 adults examined associations between empirically-derived dietary patterns and subsequent risk of depression and anxiety using annual validated screening questionnaires. High consumption of fast food and sugar was associated with approximately doubled risk of both depression symptoms and anxiety disorder, while vegetable-rich and vegetarian-like diets showed no protective effect in the total population.
