Emergency Department Utilization for Behavioral Crises in Children and Adolescents with Autism Spectrum Disorder

This study examines characteristics of autistic children and adolescents presenting to emergency departments with challenging behaviors (aggression, self-injury, suicidal ideation) over 6 years in the US Midwest, identifying service gaps and repeat visits. The research provides clinical implications for ED staff managing behavioral crises in ASD populations.
