Biochemical Role of the Endocannabinoid System in ADHD Pathophysiology: A Narrative Review

StudiuADHDÎncredere bună

This narrative review examines how dysregulation of the endocannabinoid system (ECS)—a signaling network involving cannabinoid receptors and metabolic enzymes—may contribute to ADHD by affecting dopaminergic, noradrenergic, and glutamatergic pathways critical for attention and behavior. Preclinical studies show ECS component alterations linked to hyperactivity and cognitive impairment, while clinical research remains limited but preliminary results suggest ECS-targeted approaches warrant further investigation as potential therapeutic strategies.
