Vocabulary and Syntactic Development in Japanese Children With Autism Spectrum Disorder and Down Syndrome

This study compared vocabulary and syntactic development in Japanese children with autism spectrum disorder and Down syndrome (with intellectual disability) to typically developing children, controlling for mental age. Results showed both ASD and DS groups had vocabulary development comparable to typically developing peers but exhibited significantly lower syntactic comprehension and expression, particularly with grammatical morphemes.
