Co-occurring Autism Spectrum Disorder and Borderline Personality Disorder: A Register-Based Study of Increased Psychiatric and Self-Harm Risk

A Swedish register study found that individuals with both ASD and BPD diagnoses (ages 18-40) experienced significantly higher rates of psychiatric comorbidities, inpatient hospitalization, and a twenty-fold increased risk of suicide attempts and severe self-harm compared to those with either condition alone. The findings highlight this as a vulnerable population requiring specialized clinical interventions.
