Diagnostic Challenges of Autism Spectrum Disorder in Women without Intellectual or Language Impairments: A Narrative Review

StudiuAutismÎncredere înaltă

This review examines why autism in adult women without intellectual or language impairment is frequently under-diagnosed, highlighting how subtle presentations, camouflaging behaviors, and diagnostic tools developed primarily from male presentations contribute to delayed or missed diagnoses. The research identifies that women often receive psychiatric misdiagnoses before autism recognition and recommends gender-sensitive improvements to diagnostic practices.
