The role of imageability in noun and verb acquisition in children with Down syndrome and typical development
This study examined how imageability (the ability to form mental images of words) influences vocabulary acquisition in Spanish-speaking children with Down syndrome compared to typically developing peers. Results showed that highly imageable and shorter words were acquired earlier, with children with Down syndrome acquiring words later overall but showing a stronger effect of imageability, likely related to their phonological memory difficulties.
