High-Resolution Manometry in Evaluating Dysphagia in Down Syndrome Patients

StudiuSindrom DownÎncredere înaltă

This retrospective clinical study examined swallowing and esophageal function in 24 children with Down syndrome using high-resolution manometry, finding abnormal esophageal motility in 81% of patients, most commonly ineffective esophageal motility and aperistalsis. The findings correlated well with upper gastrointestinal imaging but not with pharyngeal swallow studies, suggesting manometry provides complementary diagnostic information for dysphagia management in this population.
