Measurement of synaptic density in Down syndrome using PET imaging: a pilot study

StudiuSindrom DownÎncredere înaltă

This pilot study used positron emission tomography with [11C]UCB-J tracer to measure synaptic density in low-functioning adults with Down syndrome (n=4) compared to neurotypical older adults (n=38). Results showed reduced synaptic density in the hippocampus and smaller volumes of hippocampus and cerebellum in the Down syndrome group, providing preliminary evidence for neurobiological differences that may underlie cognitive deficits.
