Reported speech in individuals with Down syndrome: First evidence

This study analyzed narrative language production in 28 children and adolescents with Down syndrome compared to 33 typically-developing peers, examining their use of reported speech through picture-based narratives. While both groups used reported speech at comparable rates, individuals with Down syndrome showed distinct patterns in direct speech forms, suggesting cognitive factors influence how they consider listeners' knowledge during communication.
