Spatial Abilities Profile in Individuals with Down Syndrome: A Comparative Cognitive Assessment

This study evaluated spatial abilities in adolescents and young adults with Down syndrome compared to typically developing children matched on mental ability, using a comprehensive framework assessing static/dynamic and intrinsic/extrinsic spatial skills. Individuals with Down syndrome showed selective deficits in dynamic-intrinsic tasks (mental rotation, block design) and one static-extrinsic task (cart task), while performing similarly to controls on other spatial domains, revealing an uneven cognitive profile.
