Down syndrome regression disorder (DSRD) involves decline in social and adaptive functioning during adolescence to early adulthood in individuals with Down syndrome, with unclear etiology possibly related to autoimmune dysfunction, stress, or psychiatric comorbidity. This case report documents successful use of electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) in treating DSRD, particularly when catatonic features are difficult to distinguish, and provides clinical recommendations for ECT implementation in this condition.
