Temporal-sampling theory and language in Down syndrome: An empirical study

StudiuSindrom DownÎncredere înaltă

This study tested temporal-sampling theory as a framework for understanding language difficulties in Down syndrome by measuring auditory processing thresholds and lexical stress discrimination in teenagers and young adults with DS versus matched peers with other intellectual disabilities. Results showed that individuals with DS had higher auditory thresholds and lower lexical stress discrimination and vocabulary skills, suggesting auditory processing deficits contribute to their language problems and may inform future interventions.
