Prevalence and Diversity of Retinal Disease in Adults with Down Syndrome
This epidemiological study examined retinal disease patterns in adults with Down syndrome using literature review and analysis of 55+ million individuals from a U.S. health database. Adults with Down syndrome showed significantly elevated rates of retinal disorders including diabetic retinopathy (2.56× higher) and macular degeneration (4.01× higher) compared to the general population.
