Spinal Cord Injury Epidemiology in Bangladesh: An 11-Year Single-Centre Analysis
This retrospective study of 3,575 spinal cord injury patients at a rehabilitation center in Bangladesh (2011-2021) found that traumatic injuries account for 92.7% of cases, primarily from falls and traffic accidents, with higher prevalence of paraplegia overall but tetraplegia in accident cases. Non-traumatic SCIs (11.8%) were mainly caused by tumors and transverse myelitis, with mortality at 8.7% largely attributable to pressure sores, highlighting the need for prevention and rehabilitation strategies.
