Early Maladaptive Schemas and Their Associations with Gaming and Alcohol Use Disorder Symptoms

This study examined relationships between early maladaptive schemas (EMS) and symptoms of gaming disorder (GD) and alcohol use disorder (AUD) in 1054 young adults using validated questionnaires and regression analysis. Different schemas were associated with each disorder: AUD symptoms linked to dependence/incompetence and vulnerability schemas, while GD symptoms associated with enmeshment and subjugation schemas, suggesting distinct psychological pathways for each addiction.
