Adverse Childhood Experiences and Mental Health Symptoms in Adults with Down Syndrome
This study examined 157 adults with Down syndrome to determine whether adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) predict later mental health problems, as they do in the general population. Higher ACEs were associated with more adult stressful life events, anxiety, depression, and maladaptive behaviors, with ACEs moderating the impact of life stressors on depression.
