Sleep Fragmentation in TcMAC21 Mouse Model of Down Syndrome
This study examined sleep-wake patterns in TcMAC21 transgenic mice, a model closely mimicking human Down syndrome genetics, using non-invasive piezoelectric recording. Results showed that TcMAC21 mice exhibited significant sleep fragmentation with shorter sleep bouts and reduced total sleep time during dark phases compared to control mice, supporting the hypothesis that chromosome 21 triplication causes sleep disruption mechanisms relevant to Down syndrome.
