Sex differences in tau pathology in Alzheimer's disease associated with Down syndrome

StudiuSindrom DownÎncredere înaltă

This neuropathological study examined post-mortem brain tissue from individuals with Down syndrome-related Alzheimer's disease and found that phosphorylated tau pathology is significantly elevated, particularly in females. The sex differences in tau accumulation appear driven by lower total tau levels in affected males, and minimal pathology was observed in Down syndrome cases without Alzheimer's disease.
