Estimation of Down Syndrome Prevalence and Live Births in Latin America and the Caribbean (1950-2020)

This epidemiological study estimates approximately 18,655 annual live births with Down syndrome in Latin America and the Caribbean (2016-2020) and a total population of 574,092 individuals in 2020. Mean life expectancy for people with Down syndrome in the region increased dramatically from 10 years in 1950 to 48 years in 2020, reflecting improved survival rates and minimal selective abortion practices.
