Endoscopic and surgical evaluation of epiphora in children with Down syndrome

StudiuSindrom DownÎncredere bună

This retrospective study examined 63 children with Down syndrome presenting with primary epiphora (excessive tearing), finding that 67% had symptoms from birth. Surgical interventions including office-based probing and endoluminal lacrimal duct recanalization achieved complete or partial symptom resolution in 94% of 18 treated patients, with dacryoendoscopy revealing both developmental anomalies and chronic inflammatory changes in the lacrimal drainage system.
