This study analyzed mitochondrial genome variants in 49 Parkinson's disease patients undergoing levodopa challenge testing, finding that variants in mitochondrial complex I genes (ND4, ND5, ND6) were associated with differential treatment response. Specific variants in MT-ND4 and ND5 showed significant structural impacts in responsive patients, while non-responsive patients carried unique variants absent from standard databases, suggesting mitochondrial function may influence levodopa therapeutic efficacy.
