Validation of the Holmlund-Grooten Submaximal Arm Crank Ergometer Test for Estimating Peak Oxygen Uptake in Wheelchair Users with Spinal Cord Injury

A cross-sectional study validated a new submaximal exercise test for predicting peak oxygen consumption in 63 wheelchair users with motor-complete spinal cord injury, using heart rate, power output, sex, and injury level as predictors. The test demonstrated excellent criterion validity (ICC=0.88) with low measurement error and no adverse events, providing clinicians with a practical tool for fitness assessment in this population.
