Intracranial atherosclerotic stenosis associated with 1-year cognitive impairment after acute ischemic stroke or TIA
A prospective cohort study of 1,261 stroke/TIA patients found that intracranial atherosclerotic stenosis (≥50% arterial narrowing) independently predicted cognitive impairment at 12 months, even after adjusting for other vascular risk factors and brain imaging markers. The association remained significant with cognitive impairment defined as Montreal Cognitive Assessment score <23.
