Development of the Inclusion of Videogame in the Self (IVS) Scale: A Symbol-Based Screening Tool for Internet Gaming Disorder in Youth
This study developed and evaluated the IVS scale, a brief pictorial screening instrument for Internet Gaming Disorder in children and adolescents, finding that a single-item measure of the perceived relationship with a favorite game showed strong sensitivity (100%) as a quick screening proxy. While the tool shows promise for identifying at-risk youth, the high false-positive rate (45%) and limited full-scale diagnostic accuracy indicate the need for further validation in larger, more diverse populations.
