Selection of Graphic Symbol Collections by Speech and Language Pathologists for Students with Autism Spectrum Disorder

This qualitative study explored factors influencing speech-language pathologists' selection of graphic symbol collections for students with ASD through semi-structured interviews and thematic analysis. Findings identified multiple decision factors including SLP training, client age, family preferences, symbol properties like iconicity, cost, and assessment methods such as trial-and-error and dynamic assessment, highlighting the need for evidence-based guidance to ensure individualized communication support.
