Autism Spectrum Disorder in 2023: A Challenge Still Open

This review updates current knowledge on ASD across epidemiology, genetic and environmental factors, clinical presentation, and diagnostic approaches, acknowledging that most cases lack a single identified cause. It discusses multiple proposed pathogenic mechanisms (oxidative stress, mitochondrial dysfunction, microbiota changes, immune dysregulation) and emphasizes the importance of early diagnosis and psychoeducational intervention for better outcomes.
